God Doesn't Care - The Sequel
Remember a couple of weeks we explored the plight of the Israelites as they labored against cruel slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. We found out that even though it seemed like God had abandoned them to their suffering He was intimately aware of their horrible misery. From Exodus 3 we observed that God saw (3:7), God heard (3:7), God was concerned (3:7), and God came down (3:8). What is so amazing about this passage is not only the concern and personal awareness of God but how He decides to come to the rescue of the Israelites.
God could have done anything He wanted to save the people of Israel from Egyptian slavery. Think of the possibilities! He could have simply wiped Egypt off the map, He could have brought a foreign army to dismantle the Egyptian nation but He didn’t do any of that. Instead, He did something astonishing, He simply sent Moses. Notice God’s amazing rescue plan from Exodus 3:9 and 10, He affirms His awareness of Israel’s suffering then He says to Moses, “I am sending YOU (Moses) to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” Initially Moses wasn’t too excited about such a mission and came up with a truckload of excuses not to carry out God’s mission. Even though reluctant Moses went, and God saved!
This story along with a multitude of other Bible stories lets us know how God rescues! In His infinite wisdom He sends man to save men. This rescue plan stretches across the pages of scripture from Moses to Nathan (II Samuel 11) to Isaiah (Isaiah 6) all the way to the disciples (Matthew 28). As God sent Moses, Nathan, Isaiah, He sends us also.
Consider the ramifications of such a rescue plan, what if there is person who we work with, go to school with, live next door to and they are crying out to God for hope, relief and peace. God cares and God wants to rescue and maybe, just maybe, we are the answer to the hopes and prayers of this person who is seeking God. So the next time you hear about the suffering, pain and anguish in a person’s life that may be our que, MY SEQUEL, to the large story of God as He rescues men.
