johnny evans

Johnny was born on July 5, 1940 in Jennings, Louisiana. He entered the Air Force in 1958 and was later stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1959 to 1960 and then assigned to Colorado Springs in 1961. Later Johnny moved to Denver, Colorado where he met Doris Benson. They were married in 1963 and moved to Lubbock in 1964.  Johnny and Doris were married for 48 years before Doris passed away in 2011. In 2013, Johnny married Cynthia (Donahoe).

Johnny has been a member of Sunset since 1994. He is not only an elder, Johnny is also the SIBI Perpetual Connection minister, a teacher for Hope In Time of Grief class and is on the hospital visitation committee. They have one daughter, two sons,  and one grandson. 

One of Johnny’s favorite scriptures is Romans 5:6-8. He loves to cook and his favorite food is gumbo. Johnny was appointed as an elder in October 2015.
