gary walker
Gary was born on September 14, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated high school in Berlin, Germany, where his parents Richard and Elaine Walker served as missionaries. He went on to study at Lubbock Christian College and Harding College, where he met Kathy, whom he married in 1971. Gary also studied at Harding Graduate School of Religion, the University of Central Arkansas, and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India.
The Walkers have three sons: Joel, Ben, and Micah. Gary and Kathy also have 6 grandchildren: Isaac, Evelyn, Aaron, Aleah, Vivian, and an expected new grandchild in 2017.
Gary has been a member of Sunset since 1973 and an elder since 1997. He and Kathy served as missionaries to India from 1974 to 1984, and continue to make regular trips there for ongoing mentoring and teaching. From 1984 to 2000, he served on staff at Sunset in various ministry roles, i.e., family life/counselor, local minister, SSOP instructor, and adult education.
Dr. Walker is currently in private practice as a licensed clinical psychologist. He especially enjoys helping missionaries with their pre-field psychological assessments and preparation and teaching SIBI courses on Mental Health and Missions as well as Christian Counseling.
